Let’s take a look at its origin first. The hunt was on for a bigger bike that would also offer all the regular conveniences. This is where the Suzuki DR came in. The first two versions were the DR650 Djebel and the DR650RS.
Over the years, the colors kept changing, but the product remained basically the same. The DR650SE of 2008 was a bike with a 4stroke engine that was tuned for strong, mid-range and low power ranges. It was high on fuel efficiency and had a single counter balancer system.
The Suzuki DR is a technical marvel of sorts. It has a compact and lightweight SOHC 4 stroke engine. It has a competent SACS cooling system that incorporates both air and oil cooling systems. The composite electrochemical material ensures that the cylinder size is kept at a minimum. This also ensures adequate heat dissipation.
What’s more, the bike provides an electric start together with a low maintenance digitally controlled ignition system. This helps it in providing a consistent spark, no matter what the engine speed.
The front design is that of a fork, combining the best of both a conventional and inverted designs. There’s a 290mm diameter disk brake that provides excellent braking power. The back provides a stabilizing effect and adequate shock absorbing features. There’s a lightweight swing arm that helps in this. The curb weight for the series is around 136 kgs.
If you are still not satisfied, there are a host of other accessories Suzuki DR provides. These include- skid plates, gel seat, a slide stand and a rear rack. The easy kick start and a soft suspension should be additional attractions on this model. The kick start is especially good in sand and mud. All in all, if you are looking for a do everything bike, the Suzuki DR is your obvious choice.
