The Suzuki GSX-R 600 features a 599cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled inline 4-cylinder engine, capable of speeds up to 150 mph. The 16,000 rpm redline allows the 599cc motor, accompanied by Suzuki’s 6-speed constant mesh transmission; to pack on the power. S-DMS (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector) is new for the 2008-2009 model year, allowing the rider to choose from three different engine settings depending on riding conditions and or rider preferences. If the high-end power band wasn’t enough Suzuki has added a new 8-nozzle injector, iridium spark plugs and forged aluminum pistons for the 2008 – 2009 GSX-R 600.
The 2008 – 2009 Suzuki GSX-R features fully adjustable inverted 41mm Showa front forks and an electronically controlled steering damper, perfect for the track. Additionally, the GSX-R 600 includes a braced aluminum alloy swingarm and radial mounted four-piston Tokico calipers. Rear braking is accomplished via a single-piston rear caliper and disk.
Perhaps one of the most significant features of the GSX-R 600 is the availability of aftermarket parts. Virtually anything and everything is available for the GSX-R 600 to enhance the bikes performance. One might say, it is the Ford 5.0 mustang of the sportbike community.
The 2008- 2009 GSX-R 600 is surprisingly comfortable; though it probably won’t get much use on the track. Overall the GSX-R handled extremely well, thanks in part to its weight of 363 pounds. The bikes responsive handling is noticeably enhanced due to the electronic steering damper; yielding little wobble. The new Tokico brakes provided excellent braking, allowing for strong brakes later in our track session.
